This is Wagnergasse going the other way. That big tower is in the middle of Jena. If ever one gets lost, s/he only needs to head toward the tower to find familiar places again. I've been told that there is an extremely expensive restaurant at the top of the tower that some students plan to go to for their celebration when they get their PhD. It takes that big of an event to rationalize paying the food costs.
