One who has abandoned his faith, political party, or cause.
[< Greek apostasis: revolt : apo-, away from + histanai, place.]
The name “apostate.com” has raised a few eyebrows, and deserves a little explanation. Perhaps it comes from being a disenchanted, disenfranchised, Gen-X slacker. Perhaps it comes from twenty-five-plus years of watching Hollywood, the news media (print and broadcast), organized religion, local government, the federal government, etc., screw things up. Whatever the reason, I have lost my faith in many things I used to trust in, abandoned a lot of causes, and given up hope in a lot of areas. But despite losing my faith in these works of man (or, perhaps, because of losing my faith in these works of man), I have renewed and strengthened my faith in the works of God: his holiness and justice; the beauty of creation; the redemptive act of atonement performed by his son; the existence and forgiveness of sin; and the promise of eternal life.
There are many areas on this site that have nothing to do with faith or apostasy. But the main focus of this site, and the reason for the name, is to show the folly of man and glory of God: to open men’s eyes and show what is worth faith, and what should be walked away from.
